Biography

Born in Villafranca de los Caballeros, Toledo, Spain, 1983. 


His works might seem hieratic and solemn, he creates ceramics using them as a sculptural element, the monochromatic character of his artwork, gives his pieces a strong atmosphere. The different types of mediums and covers to built his ceramics are extremely rare and unique path for a young artist.
He graduated as a technician in Fine Arts and Design (artistic ceramic)  in the Art School Francisco Alcántara, of Madrid (2004-2007).
Since he was a child, Gregorio Peño was interested about ceramics and its development. He soon discovered a way to express himself as a solid and bright artist.
He is a very well known young artist, his work has been recognized in Spain and abroad through different awards which include: Honorable mention at the X International Ceramics Competition Mino, in Japan, 2014; Selected for the exhibition “Hot Rookies”, Gyenonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2013 in South Korea; “Under thirty-five year old” prize, International Biennale  of  Vallauris – Contemporary creation and ceramic, in France, 2012; First prize of the Certamen Jóvenes Artistas de Castilla la Mancha, in Spain, 2011; among others.

His artworks can be also found in public collections such as: New Taipei Yingge Ceramics Museum (Taiwan), Museum of Modern Ceramic Art (Gifu, Japan); Icheon World Ceramic Center, (South Korea); Museo de Albacete (Spain); Fundación Venancio Blanco (Salamanca, Spain) and more public and private collections.
